Wall Graphics for Sport Venues

We were chuffed to be invited to Edgbaston Cricket Ground to discuss the revamp of their reception lobby and four premium Executive Suites. The stadium is recognised globally as having one of the best atmospheres in cricket, which has given England’s men’s side a performance record better than at any other home ground. Our team visited the site in March 2022 following previous successful projects that focussed on wall graphics for sport venues. We have been lucky enough to work with Liverpool F.C. on their two training grounds, Derby University Sports Facility and Loughborough University Sports Department, so the Birmingham-based Cricket ground was an exciting new project.

PRIORITISING THE RECEPTION LOBBY

The front entrance area needed refreshing in time for the Commonwealth Games which were due to begin in July. Our creative team worked alongside their Marketing department to develop a graphic style to suit their venue. Timeline walls and heritage themes were quickly discounted as they couldn’t be updated easily and would soon become dated. We focussed instead on the inclusivity of the cricketing community, showing participants of all ages and backgrounds enjoying the historic game.

Another area in this large lobby was dedicated to an Honours Wall, to herald the victories and achievements of cricketers dating back to 1882. These clear acrylic plaques are designed to be updated with cut vinyl letters and added to the Honours Boards when new centuries or five-wickets hauls were celebrated.

To accompany the imagery we introduced an abstract graphic style that represented the cricket ball and falling wickets. The dots and lines appear in the brand colours interacting with the photographic elements and have been carried through the building in further wall graphics for this sporting venue.

EXECUTIVE SUITES

The Edgbaston Marketing team came up with the wonderful idea of naming each Executive Suite after a local cricketing legend. We chose iconic images of each player and displayed them with a significant piece of memorabilia. Each suite had a large feature wall using our one-piece wallpaper system One Wall with impressive 3D embellishments of high-gloss acrylic and professionally framed photographs. The opposite wall was decorated with a poignant quote from each of the successful sports-person, cut to shape from vinyl in Edgbaston’s brand colours.

CORRIDORS

The long corridor connecting the Executive Boxes received a similar graphic treatment. Four professionally framed shirts with supporting plaques span the nine metre wall with acrylic text printed and wood effect. These were all mounted over the top of a custom designed one-piece wallpaper featuring the new graphic style.
