Tibshelf Community School approached us with a vision to enhance their learning environment. They were looking for a suite of school wall displays that would reflect their core values while fostering a warm, welcoming environment to encourage engagement and learning. We began with a site survey to explore their space and identify key areas we could use to create several impactful wall designs. A site survey is a valuable part of our process. It gives us the opportunity to not only meet the staff and teachers to get a feel for the school, but also evaluate the surfaces for the school wall displays to make informed choices about appropriate materials and fixings.
Our talented Designer and Project Manager met with the head teacher to discuss her vision and discover more about the school’s values. We learnt that the staff and students are incredibly proud of their school which plays an important role within the community. The building was more than an educational space, it was also home to many local events and needed to represent the town as a whole. These valuable insights become the foundation of our creative process; to deliver a mature style, accessible and relatable to everyone.
This project’s primary focus was on transforming the entrance area, establishing a high standard of design that was to set the tone for the rest of the school – showcasing the schools values and create a space that resonated with both students and visitors. The reception space had high ceilings with a light and airy feel with an incredibly long wall that looked perfect for a large school wall display to deliver a huge impact. We created a whopping 33m fabric graphic in the entrance space which promoted the local area, showcasing a range of illustrated Derbyshire landmarks to connect students with their local community and heritage. We followed the school’s brand colours and developed a typography style across all the school wall displays to create synergy and consistency.
One of our favourite elements of the reception area is the contemporary feature wall. We designed a modern foliage wall paired with timber-slat acoustic panels. The textures and lines delivered a stunning result which was completed with a custom-made faux neon sign that declared the school’s motto.

In addition to the entrance graphics we designed a range of classroom wall displays. We collaborated closely with the teaching staff to create educational wall displays tailored to each classroom. Using syllabus information provided by Tibshelf’s teachers, we designed engaging graphics that supported the curriculum. From literary legends and sporting stars to mathematical masterminds, we used imagery and messaging to delivery bitesize information in an inspiring way.
To date we have designed and installed school wall displays for the english department, sports faculty, drama and maths. However the next phase of wall graphics is already underway, focussing on the sciences, modern languages, history and geography.
The performing arts graphic presented a challenge it sits in a busy entrance to the main hall and is used by both students and the wider community. The brief was clear, it needed to stand out, feel premium and strike a balance between performing arts while remaining accessible and welcoming to external visitors. We opted for a bolder, more contemporary look using printed gold vinyl to achieve a design that felt dynamic and suited the space. Printing directly onto gold vinyl with a layered white-ink and CMYK process, it allowed our skilled print team to selectively mask areas to allow the metallic finish to shine through exactly where it should. This clever technique added depth and contrast and providing a high-end feel. Finally, the vinyl was finished with an anti-scuff laminate to protect against heavy footfall and ensure the graphic retains its depth and quality over time.
